Business Owners Coaching Program

The Department of Trade and Economic Development (DTED) offers a Business Owners Coaching Program to help South Australian business owners develop their management and business skills. Participants meet regularly to discuss issues, develop solutions and hear first-hand from experienced, successful business owners.

New groups are formed according to demand and subject to the availability of coaches.

What’s Involved?

Lead by a coach, groups of up to 10 business owners meet for three-hour sessions once a month for ten months. The coach also offers hourly individual sessions to each participant each month, either by phone or in person. Every effort is made to match the business owner’s needs with the skills and strength of an appointed coach.

Group sessions are held to provide participants with a forum where they can discuss critical business issues such as:

Marketing	Profitability
Identifying new customers	Success measures
Staff issues	Structuring your business
Motivation

Who can participate?

Businesses with a turnover of between $50,000 and $3 million
Businesses that have been running for more than one year
Potential participants must demonstrate strong willingness to self-improve and commitment to the program
Participants must be prepared to commit to attending group sessions and to work with the Department of Trade and Economic Development (DTED), their coach and other group members
Participants must be prepared to sign a DTED Business Coaching Program agreement

DTED aims to match participants on the basis of their specific needs and stage of business development. It is possible that an appropriate group may not be available at your time of application. In this case, your application will be placed on file for consideration at a later stage and you will be notified accordingly.

Cost and subsidy levels

The total cost of the 10-month Business Owners Coaching Program (BOCP) is $2,200.
DTED will subsidise first-time participants, actual costs starting from $550 on the following basis:

Subsidy of 75 per cent for businesses with a turnover between $50,000 and $500,000
Subsidy of 50 per cent for businesses with a turnover between $501,000 and $1,000, 000
Subsidy of 25 per cent for businesses with a turnover greater than $1,000,000
